Because There's No Planet B

Celebrate Earth Day Every Day

Posted by Kristyn Terpinas on

It's the end of Earth Month 2021, and as an ocean-inspired brand, this global celebration holds a lot of meaning for us. MASAMI was founded on the belief that we can create high-performing hair care products that are good for you and good for the environment.

Our botanically infused products are vegan, cruelty-free and contain NO phthalates, sulfates or parabens - toxic chemicals that are harmful for both you and the planet.

We harvest our signature seaweed ingredient Mekabu from the Iwate Prefecture in NE Japan and founded The MASAMI INSTITUTE to work with the local fisherman and coastline preservation groups to research, monitor, and document each season's growth.

When we borrow from the earth, it is our responsibility to replenish.

Ocean plastic is a global problem. There are *16 billion pounds* of plastic found in the ocean. 8 million tons of new plastic enter our oceans every year. And in 2018, only 8.7% of plastic in the U.S. was recycled. All shocking, yet true statistics.

Our brand mission is to help rebalance the ocean ecosystem, which is why we created a large size, ceramic, refillable bottle to replace our plastic packaging. We want to do our part to prevent more plastic from making its way into the ocean.

These stunning bottles arrive filled with 32 fl oz. of our high-performing luxurious Mekabu Shampoo or Conditioner. And, 32 fl oz. recyclable refill pouches will make refilling them as easy and sustainable as possible. We’re projecting them to be scheduled to ship in June 2021.

To further demonstrate our commitment to sustainability, we are thrilled to be part of the IMPACT COLLECTIVE by Greenprint. We are a featured member of a group of forward-thinking brands that are committed to making an immediate and positive environmental impact by neutralizing our carbon, plastic, water and/or energy footprints.

We are currently participating in their Reduced Carbon and Plastic Impact programs, meaning we are now 100% carbon AND plastic neutral. Look for these Impact Seals on our packaging in the near future and on other brands when you shop. With every purchase you are supporting brands who are actively making a positive environmental impact.

Greenhouse gases are the main cause of climate change. By investing in certified carbon dioxide equivalent reduction projects like reforestation, landfill gas capture, alternative energy, methane reduction and industrial process, the Impact Collective program is helping us reduce our carbon footprint.

By 2050 there will be more plastic in the oceans than there are fish (by weight). The Impact Collective works with communities in Haiti, Indonesia and the Philippines to reclaim ocean bound plastic from the environment making MASAMI and other participating brands plastic neutral.

Follow us on our journey to help the beauty industry become more sustainable every day. We're proud to create products for healthy hair and a happy planet. Because there's NO planet B!
