International Women's Day

Posted by James Hammett on

International Women's Day (IWD) held on March 8th every year for over a century is "a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women."

It's also one of the MASAMI team's favorite holidays. Our co-founder, Lynn, is a powerhouse who's known for her commitment to lifting women and supporting them in their professional and personal lives. This IWD, we honor her and every other woman who's fighting the good fight and pushing us all further towards the equality women deserve.

We're celebrating by highlighting a few incredible members of the MASAMI community and sharing a little fun Q&A sesh we had with each woman.

About Maggie:

Maggie is one of the most badass women we know. And not just because she has a big, smart job (Head of Strategy at Deloitte Heat). We love that our girl Maggie is a former entrepreneur as well. She founded two companies and knows that it takes perseverance, team building, and sometimes sheer sweat. Both of Maggie's companies were committed to sparking change, one in her own creative industry, and one in the tough-to-move healthcare industry. No small feats! You inspire us, Maggie.

Q&A:

When do you feel most beautiful?
I feel most beautiful during the summer - after a round of golf and a little sun on my shoulders.

How can women support each other?
Women can support each other by realizing we are not fighting for a single chair in the room - we should be working together to add more chairs.

Favorite beauty product?
MASAMI first, but after that, I love Kiehl's night serum - I wake up feeling and looking younger!

Introducing Miranda:

We love Miranda's supportive spirit (she was one of our first customers!) and never give up attitude. By day she is a Digital Marketing Coordinator at Bain and Company. After 5 PM, you can find Miranda at a powerlifting competition or spinning. She also once babysit her friend's daughter so she could attend a woman's leadership conference. Now, that is support. There's a lot to love about Miranda.

Q&A:

When do you feel most beautiful?
I feel most beautiful when it's sunny out, and I've had a fresh blowout.

How can women support each other?
By reaching out to one another regularly and checking in. I always feel so appreciated when I hear from someone that they're there to chat about whatever is on my mind. I also love Venmo-ing friends $4 randomly for a coffee on me to make sure they know that I appreciate them!

Favorite beauty product?
Laura Mercier caviar sticks. They're super creamy and blendable, and they don't crease! I wear them every day, and they layer nicely for a more glam look.

Say hello to Veronica:

Last but not least is Veronica, CEO of Isle de Nature, a luxury home fragrance company due to launch in Summer 2020. Veronica is a mother of two and spends a lot of her time on the sidelines at lacrosse and soccer games or shuttling back and forth to cheerleading competitions and Girl Scout meetings.

In between, she spends her free time advising female-led startups and mentoring women in technology and coaching them as they navigate their unique career paths. Every day is IWD in Veronica's world.

When do you feel most beautiful?
After a great workout is when I feel most beautiful, endorphins are great for the skin, and exercise helps me sleep. A rested me is a beautiful me.

How can women support each other?
Women should support each other the same way men do: visibly, loudly, and shamelessly. Know someone perfect for that role your friend is filling at their company? Send your friends' resumes. Headed to an exclusive networking dinner in a friend's industry? Ask for a +1. Keep a tight circle of people around you that you trust and can be your authentic self with, be open about what you need, and look out for each other. It works. I don't know where I'd be without my personal board of directors.

Favorite beauty product?
I'm going to plug MASAMI's serum because I think everyone should give it a try, but besides that one, I'd recommend Sundaily's Base Layer. There are many gummies out there making wild claims, but this is the real deal. I eat one gummy every morning, and my skin is protected from the sun, pollution, and stress. What's not to love?
